WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recognizing that transportation electrification is essential to achieving a carbon-free energy future, the Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN) and Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) have jointly signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” which formalizes their plans to collaborate.
The two organizations intend to work together to advance and promote vehicle-grid-integration (VGI) technology and standards. Both organizations acknowledge the importance of engaging the full spectrum of industry and non-industry stakeholders in the pursuit of a common vision and goals for VGI.
Additional details and planned activities will be announced in 2020.
“The CharIN association includes members from the global EV charging value chain", said Claas Bracklo, Chairman of the CharIN e.V. “EVs play a key role in the future grid, and utilities can leverage them as bidirectional grid assets. We are excited about the opening of our North American office as a base for collaboration with important regional strategic partners, including SEPA."
According to Erika Myers, Principal, Transportation Electrification for SEPA, “In order to achieve a Vehicle-Grid Integration (VGI) future, we must bring together the EV manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers, and electric utilities. This agreement will help advance important standards for VGI, and we are excited to be working with CharIN to further our shared goals and create enhanced opportunities for collaboration.” Erika also noted that this is SEPA’s first international agreement, reflecting the global market for EVs. “VGI standards developed abroad may directly impact our domestic utility members.”
CharIN is an international association of vehicle manufacturers, energy providers and original equipment manufacturers with one common goal: To establish the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the global standard for charging all types of battery powered electric vehicles. CharIN has over 180 members along the whole value chain from all over the world. It is open to all interested parties and has offices in Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea, India, Japan, China and the US. Please find more information at: www.charinev.org
