CharIN Focus Group Meetings took place in Califonia for the first time

The Focus Group Meetings of the CharIN e.V. took place from March 20th to 22nd, 2018 at the Pacific Research Center, Newark, California, (hosted by CharIN member Lucid Motors) and attracted many experts for the Combined Charging System (CCS) from the US, Europe and other parts of the world.

During the meetings, the members of the CharIN Focus Groups Charging Communication, Conformance Test/Interoperability and Charging Infrastructure exchanged information about latest developments regarding the Combined Charging System (CCS). Each focus group meeting was chaired by focus group speakers and deputies.

Over 40 participants in three focus groups discussed a vendor-neutral specification for a CCS test system (the Golden Test Device), CCS conformance testing finalization of test cases for CCS 1.0, use cases for CCS grid integration, backend protocols of the charger and discussion of the automatic charging system within the scope of CCS. Also, the groups looked at the scope of a plug and charge certification process and issues concerning ISO/IEC 15118. Additionally, general topics such as administrative topics and international collaboration within CharIN were also discussed.

All activities are directed at achieving one central target: To draw up requirements for the evolution of charging-related standards and to develop a certification system for use by manufacturers implementing the CCS in their products. The Focus Group meetings were rated as an excellent opportunity for information exchange and additional networking possibilities between focus group members. The discussed topics now will be further developed within an agreed time schedule at the regular phone conferences of the individual Focus Groups.

The next Focus Group face-to-face meetings will take place from June 11th to 14th, 2018 in Berlin, Germany.
