To promote and improve the interoperability between electric vehicles and the related charging infrastructure CharIN sees a need to work jointly together with the standard makers. This liaison ensures the link of the international communication protocol ISO 15118 which is based on a German DIN SPEC 70121 communication and the specification made by SAE are synchronized. CharIN is willing to provide valuable input to both groups.
With more than 180 active members across the EV charging value chain, the CharIN community has become the largest user group of ISO 15118 communication standards. Together, CharIN’s members have a wealth of expertise and experience in implementing this technology.
To put the work of CharIN on a cooperative level the developed guidelines and recommendations could directly be considered in the SAE Task Force. This increases collaboration which improves interoperability especially in the US market where SAE norms are applicable. Recently, the ISO Committee approved CharIN’s proposal for liaison with the Joint Working Group.
Moving forward, CharIN and the SAE committee will notify one another about planned activities in their respective organizations. Additionally, the two organizations will regularly exchange technical documents and invite each other to comment.
