The Focus Group Meetings of the CharIN e.V. took place from June 11th to 14th, 2018 at Volkswagen DRIVE Forum in Berlin, Germany. During the meetings, members of the CharIN Focus Groups Charging Connection, Conformance Test/Interoperability, Grid Integration and Charging Infrastructure exchanged information about latest developments and discussed further progress of the Combined Charging System (CCS). Each focus group meeting was moderated by the focus group speakers and deputies.
Members from four Focus Groups discussed the strategic goals for CCS and the possible measurement for achieving these goals during the CharIN Focus Group weeks. Topics that were discussed in the meetings included, among others, CCS conformance testing with the CharIN CCS Test Device, grid integration levels and use cases, wireless power transfer and automated connection devices for conductive charging. Furthermore, an overview on CCS in different continents was provided by the CharIN international coordination offices in Europe and Asia.
Overall, the Focus Group meetings received many positive feedbacks with a great number of participants, valuable discussions on the table, and additional networking possibilities like get-together dinners in the evening of June 11th and 13th. The discussed topics now will be further developed within an agreed time schedule. All activities are directed at achieving one central target: To draw up requirements for the evolution of charging-related standards and to develop a certification system for use by manufacturers implementing the CCS in their products.
